Sophia School was conceptualized in January 1995, coinciding with the celebration of the feast of the Holy Child Jesus. Deriving its name from the Greek word "sofia" or wisdom, the school was founded by the husband-and-wife team of Lorenzo Abacan, a psychologist-educator, and Marie Ann Regoso-Abacan, a nutritionist-educator.
In June 1995, the school formally opened with 30 pupils enrolled in pre-school and grade school departments, housed in a humble three-classroom facility at its original location on Abacan Street, Barangay Calvario, Meycauayan City, Bulacan.
The Department of Education (DepEd) accredited the pre-school program in April 1997 and the grade school program in June 2000. The high school department started operation in June 2001 and received government recognition in March 2005. The senior high school department received DepEd permit to operate in 2016.
At present, its pre-school, grade school, and junior high school departments and administrative offices are housed in a new four-story building on Dazo Street, also at Barangay Calvario. The original school compound on Abacan Street, meanwhile, houses the senior high school department.
Since then, Sophia School has continued to expand and upgrade its facilities as well as enhance its holistic educational program to provide for the learning needs of Sophian students, who are being prepared to become future progressive leaders of change for God and country.
